So...

Boris Johnson is Mayor of London.

Boris...

...Johnson.

Boris "Section 28" Johnson.

Has the country gone utterly mental? I can only assume that the country has gone utterly mental.

That's a pretty political blog post for a band who are usually only concerned about old men and drinking. I'm just upset that Boris will now be too busy making a fool of himself in a real job to make a fool of himself on light hearted satirical quiz shows. Well, when I said I was upset, that was a slight exaggeration. I'll get over it pretty quickly. Maybe a few days. A week tops. And I'll still have the repeats on Dave to watch. Nah, actually, I think it'll be fine. It's going to work out ok. Sucks to live in London though.

The worst part is, we can't make fun of Americans for electing a clown any more.

Brian Blessed was a bit weird on last night's light hearted satirical quiz show. But Boris, what the hell man?

I wonder which city will become our next capital after he fucks the current one up? Liverpool? Manchester? BIRMINGHAM?!?!

At least his every move will be slightly more criticised by the left than anything Livingstone would have done. I suspect uproar will become a common occurance.

Back when he was a local candidate I was vaguely accepting of people voting for Boris because he was amusing, but I figured when it got to the level where he would have some power, people would think twice, especially seeing as the BNP and UKIP all asked their supporters to give their second votes to Boris. Surely if that's the case, you realise it's a terrible choice. Apparently not.

Londoners weren't spoiled for choice, but I think in the two mayoral debates I saw, Livingstone actually came off very well, even though at first I was none too happy about him either.

I guess it's possible that Boris could pull his finger out and actually do an OK job but, there's a fundamental difference.

Regardless of what was said about livingstone, He was never a Nazi. I genuinely worry about having Boris as Mayor. I think it opens us up for a conservative government next term and, looking at the current cabinet, we're talking VERY conservative. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer. I mean, this is worst case scenario, but it could be Thatcher all over again.

On the plus side, we might get back a political subversive youth culture that we all missed in this era of utter apathy. We'll see

You know that's really true. I'm ready to kick up a major fuss about this, i'm absolutely bitter about the approaching combination of recession and conservative government (can anyone doubt that they'll be our next incumbents?), I can't see it working out well for very many people.

-aaaaalso, have you noticed that the flagship conservative-associated 'make an instant difference to show i'm a different guy' plans of Johnson are all about public 'safety', in the form of more police and more surveillance - knife scanners etc.? No problems in themselves, but as an indication of the direction of policy in terms of impinging on personal liberty, shows some distinct hipocrisy when you put it beside the conservative wailing about how bad identity cards would be - I can see them going ahead with that kind of thing after all.

So, shall we go to Canada, NZ, or Auz to avoid the implicit contractual consent to governance by such a frightening group?

New Zealand is a bit backward and you get no decent violent video games in Australia so....Canada I guess?

I think Sweden is probably pretty good - apart from all the suicide, but thats just because its always dark...

As for Borris, it will be interesting to see what he does in terms of making London greener, but other than that, yeh scary stuff.
